With the advanced search form for individuals, you have more possibilities to refine your search with various selection menus. At the same time you can structure your information in the search fields.
In the blue field you find the link to the advanced search for individuals.
Fill out the search form, but start with just a few pieces of information and instead add more pieces if you get too many hits. If you want, you can use the menus to the left to narrow the search by time period, type of source, or/and places. You can select as much/little as you feel necessary.
If you want to run a search for several persons at the same time, for instance a parent couple, you must click on Add search form for additional person before you start to fill in the various search fields.
When you search for two or more individuals simultaneously, it is important that the number of hits is below 2000 for each of them. You will see a warning until you have narrowed the hits below 2000 persons. As you see from the illustration below, a search for jens in the church records will give far too many hits. Unfortunately, we have not yet translated the warning, it says: Your query resulted in ..... hits. You must narrow the result to 2000 hits.
Once we have added more information, the warning disappears. We can then continue with the additional individual. We want to find the wife of Jens Laurits Arup, called Diderikke. Her name might be spelled very differently, so we only write did*. As you see below, the warning is there immediately.
If we add that we are looking for a female individual with given name starting with did, the number of hits is quickly reduced to accepted level. Notice that the box for Next person only is checked. This is useful when you know that you are looking for two individuals that will be next to each other in the lists, for instance groom and bride in wedding lists, father and mother in lists of baptism and confirmation. Notice that the male will be listed before the female. In the baptisms and confirmation lists, the order will usually be child, father and mother.
The result list shows the records where Jens Arup and the woman with a given name starting with did are listed toghether and she is directly below him in the transcribed source. The information in the result list are from the main person, the name you started to search for, in this case Jens Arup.
By clicking on the names in the result list, you can see additional information on the person and the event itself. Here we see the married couple Jens Lauritz Arup and Dideriche Cappelen in the baptism of their son Ulrich Friderich v. Cappelen.
